Classic New England Charm: Morgan & Eric’s Red Lion Inn Wedding
There is something about a Red Lion Inn Cohasset wedding that just feels like home.
It’s rare to find a venue that manages to feel like a secluded, historic estate while being right in the heart of a quintessential New England village. As a photographer, I’m always looking for that perfect balance of texture, light, and “vibe,” and for Morgan and Eric’s big day, the Red Lion delivered on all three.
The Prep: Natural Light at the Hillside House
We started the day at the Hillside House. If you’re getting married here, this is such a “win” for your photos. It’s airy, filled with soft seaside colors, and—most importantly—drenched in that beautiful natural light that makes everyone look their best while they’re getting ready.
I loved capturing those quiet, nervous-excited moments before Morgan’s dress went on. There’s a specific kind of energy in the room during prep, and having a space this open allowed for those candid, unposed shots of the bridesmaids laughing and the final celebratory toasts before heading to the ceremony.
The Highlights: Morgan & Eric’s Best Moments
Every wedding has a “pulse,” and for Morgan and Eric, that pulse was a mix of quiet elegance and high-energy celebration. Here are a few of the shots that really tell the story of their day:
-
The First Look in the Garden: We found a quiet corner in the gardens for their first look. I love the sequence of photos here—Eric’s expression shifted from pure anticipation to the biggest, most genuine smile the second he saw Morgan.
-
The “Loft View” Ceremony: During their ceremony in the Barn, I made my way up to the loft to get that signature wide-angle perspective. There’s a photo of them holding hands at the altar, surrounded by the warm glow of the chandeliers and the massive scale of the wooden beams. It perfectly captures how intimate their big wedding actually felt.
-
The Dance Floor: Like most of my couples, they really loved to dance and I really loved being there to capture it all.
The Reception: Magic in the Barn
The centerpiece of the property is, without a doubt, the Lion’s Hall. This 18th-century barn is the benchmark for rustic sophistication.
If you’ve followed my work for a while, you know the dance floor is my absolute favorite part of the day. The Red Lion’s barn, with its massive chandeliers and stone water wall, creates such an organic, grounded atmosphere. Once the formal toasts were over (which were equal parts hysterical and tear-jerking!), the energy shifted into a full-blown celebration. Eric and Morgan were right in the middle of the pack all night, and catching those candid sing-along moments is why I love what I do.
Stephen’s Pro-Tip for Cohasset Brides:
Don’t worry about the weather! The Red Lion is one of the most “weather-proof” venues I know. Even if it rains, the interior of the barn is so visually rich and full of character that we don’t lose an ounce of the “wow” factor for your portraits.

I love stepping right inside the barn for portraits. It’s a gorgeous background with great natural light from the doors.
Back to the garden for family photos and wedding party.
This was my first wedding where I discovered the wine cellar and have been back several times since!
