If you’re dreaming of a Willowdale summer wedding, this celebration is the perfect inspiration.
Getting Ready Inside the Historic Mansion
Willowdale’s getting-ready spaces are a dream. The soft natural light, vintage details, and plenty of room for your wedding party to relax. Brides love the oversized windows and classic furnishings, and your hair and makeup team will love them too. Grooms love the large rooms upstairs, their own bathroom, and big comfy couches. Plus they always have drinks and snacks when you arrive.
Portraits on the Grounds
After Sam’s first look with her dad, Sam and Phil did their first look together. I loved both of their reactions. We then explored the grounds, where there are too many amazing photo locations. Every where you turn is an amazing backdrop.
Sam LOVES popcorn, so she had her favorite right before walking down the aisle. I try to make sure the timeline has space to chill out before the ceremony.
A Courtyard Ceremony Surrounded by Nature
The courtyard is one of Willowdale’s defining features with stone walls, climbing vines, and perfect light. Summer ceremonies here feel intimate and romantic without needing much décor. The light sets directly behind the mansion in the summer, which looks amazing and keeps you mostly in shade depending on your start time. When you visit Willowdale, use Lumos or another sunlight app to see exactly where the sun would be on your day
The aisle walk is especially stunning because the courtyard frames the moment perfectly. From any angle, it feels grand but personal.
Cocktail Hour Inside
While family and friends mingle, the early evening ushers guests inside for cocktail hour. The Conservatory and adjacent mansion rooms are perfect for this cocktail hour, while the staff transforms the courtyard and tent for the reception. I love how the sun pours into these rooms. Floor-to-ceiling windows make keeping an eye on golden hour easy, and guests love the historical, warm feel of the mansion.
Reception Inside the Sailcloth Tent
Willowdale’s tented reception space is where the night truly opens up. The sailcloth tent glows beautifully as the sun sets, creating warm, flattering light for dinner and toasts.
A summer tented reception here usually includes:
-
Long farm tables and elegant rounds
-
Lush centerpieces that play off the surrounding woods
-
A dance floor full of energy right from the first song
Once the tent lights come on, it feels like an outdoor garden party and an elegant ballroom all at once.
Guests move freely between the tent and courtyard, great for candid photos and for guests who like a little fresh air between dances.
Dessert!
One of the biggest hits of any Willowdale summer wedding is always the dessert.
Willowdale Estate is famous for serving the world’s best chocolate chip cookies. They are soft, warm, perfectly chewy, and absolutely unforgettable.
Right next to the cookies, the couple treated everyone to a full custom ice cream bar. Toppings, sauces, everything you’d want on a warm summer night in the woods of Ipswich. Kids love it, adults love it even more, and it’s one of those details that turns a beautiful reception into a truly memorable one. The mix of warm cookies and cold ice cream is unbeatable, especially after hours of dancing under the lights.
